Brothels Near Las Vegas: The Closest Legal Brothels to Las Vegas, Nevada

There are no legal brothels in Las Vegas itself. Prostitution is illegal in Clark County, where Las Vegas is located, but licensed brothels are permitted in neighboring Nye County. Nevada law prohibits counties with populations of 700,000 or more from licensing houses of prostitution; Clark County is currently the only Nevada county above that threshold.

For visitors coming from Las Vegas, three operating brothels reasonably belong in a discussion of nearby legal brothels: Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch in Pahrump, and Alien Cathouse in Amargosa Valley. Each property maintains a current website and operates in Nye County.

Geographically, however, they are not equally close. Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch sit next to one another on Homestead Road in Pahrump, about 60 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. Alien Cathouse is farther northwest in Amargosa Valley.

What Is the Closest Brothel to Las Vegas?

Technically, Chicken Ranch is the closest legal brothel to Las Vegas. The property is located at 10511 Homestead Road, while Sheri’s Ranch is next door at 10551 Homestead Road. Both are roughly 60 miles from the Las Vegas Strip.

But that answer needs some context. The two properties are next-door neighbors and within easy walking distance of one another. Whatever small difference exists in their measured distance from Las Vegas has virtually no practical meaning to a visitor who has just driven roughly 60 miles across the Spring Mountains.

For someone asking which brothel is closest to Las Vegas, there are really two useful answers: Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch.

Why Aren’t There Legal Brothels in Las Vegas?

One of the most persistent misconceptions about Nevada prostitution is that legal brothels operate in Las Vegas. They do not.

Nevada law makes it unlawful for either a sex worker or a customer to engage in prostitution outside a licensed house of prostitution. State law also prevents a county with a population of 700,000 or more from licensing a house of prostitution. That prohibition currently applies to Clark County.

That is why the closest legal brothels are across the county line in Nye County rather than somewhere on or near the Strip. For visitors, the important distinction is not simply Nevada versus another state. Nevada’s prostitution laws depend heavily on where in Nevada you are.

Why Do So Many People Think Prostitution Is Legal in Las Vegas?

The confusion is understandable. Many visitors arrive knowing one broadly true fact: prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada.

They then walk along the Las Vegas Strip and encounter sexually suggestive advertising for escort services. Put those two observations together without understanding Nevada’s county-by-county laws, and it is easy to conclude that prostitution must also be legal in Las Vegas.

The important distinction is between an escort service and prostitution. Nevada law defines an escort as someone paid to date, socialize with, visit, accompany or spend time with another person. The definition specifically excludes someone who advertises or provides sexual conduct for compensation.

In other words, an escort service may legally sell companionship. It may not legally sell sex in Las Vegas.

Nevada separately defines prostitution as sexual conduct provided in exchange for money or another thing of value. That activity may legally take place only within a licensed house of prostitution.

This also helps explain an apparent contradiction visitors sometimes notice. Escort advertising can be highly visible in Las Vegas, while Nevada law specifically restricts advertising by houses of prostitution in jurisdictions where prostitution is prohibited. Sexually suggestive escort advertising on the Strip therefore should not be interpreted as evidence that prostitution itself is legal there.

Legal prostitution and legal escorting are two different things.

Why Pahrump Became the Main Brothel Destination From Las Vegas

Pahrump became the main center for Las Vegas-area brothels largely because of geography. It sits much closer to Las Vegas than the brothels historically located farther north along U.S. Highway 95, while remaining in Nye County, where licensed brothels are permitted.

Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch also developed around a more destination-oriented model, with larger courtesan rosters, extensive amenities and transportation geared toward Las Vegas visitors. Both properties currently advertise transportation from Las Vegas.

That gave Pahrump a different role from the smaller and more remote brothels that once operated around Beatty and farther north. It does not mean the more distant properties disappeared for one common reason. Angel’s Ladies, Shady Lady Ranch, Bikini’s Gentleman’s Club and Brothel, and Love Ranch South each closed under different circumstances.

Las Vegas-Area Brothels: 2012 vs. 2026

In 2012, when this website’s editor started in the industry, seven legal brothels were operating in the broader Las Vegas-area market by the end of the year:

Chicken Ranch

Sheri’s Ranch

Alien Cathouse

Love Ranch South

Angel’s Ladies

Shady Lady Ranch

Bikini’s Gentleman’s Club and Brothel

Bikini’s is the easy one to overlook because its run was so brief. Nye County issued Guy Brenkman the county’s seventh brothel license in January 2011, and Bikini’s remained open south of Beatty until June 20, 2013. That confirms it was operating throughout 2012.

By 2026, three of those seven remained in operation: Chicken Ranch, Sheri’s Ranch and Alien Cathouse. The change is more interesting than the numbers alone suggest. The four former properties closed for different reasons and went on to have very different afterlives.

The wrecked twin engine plane near Angel’s Ladies entrance

What Happened to Angel’s Ladies?

Angel’s Ladies operated a few miles north of Beatty along U.S. Highway 95. Mack and Angel Moore purchased the property, then known as Fran’s Star Ranch, in 1997 and renamed it Angel’s Ladies.

When Moore retired in 2014 at age 86, he acknowledged that the recession, the Internet and the brothel’s remote location had changed the business. He noted that visitors arriving in Las Vegas could arrange companionship there rather than make what he described as a roughly 250-mile round trip to Beatty. Moore also said business had begun improving again and made clear that retirement was ultimately a personal decision: he and his wife wanted to travel.

Angel’s Ladies closed permanently in August 2014. The former brothel is still recognizable because of the wrecked twin-engine airplane near its entrance. The aircraft dates to the Fran’s Star Ranch era and was deliberately left in place after it became a roadside landmark. Later owners, including the Moores, kept it.

The airplane remains one of the most recognizable traces of the former brothel today.

What Happened to Shady Lady Ranch?

Shady Lady Ranch operated along U.S. Highway 95 between Beatty and Goldfield. Bobbi Davis and her husband established the brothel there in 1992.

Davis closed the property in 2014. Although she spoke about the difficult business climate facing rural brothels, she also described her decision as deeply personal: her husband had died two years earlier, and she wanted to return to Texas to care for her aging parents.

The former brothel later found a very different use. New owners converted it into the Shady Lady Bed & Breakfast, which still trades on some of the property’s unusual history and character. Nevada’s official tourism site now promotes the former brothel as a lodging destination.

Unlike several other former brothel sites in the region, Shady Lady survived by becoming something else.

What Happened to Bikini’s?

Bikini’s Gentleman’s Club and Brothel had the shortest run of the former Las Vegas-area houses discussed here. Guy Brenkman opened the property about two miles south of Beatty in late January 2011 after receiving Nye County’s seventh brothel license.

Brenkman later developed serious health problems, including kidney failure, and closed Bikini’s on June 20, 2013 so he could move closer to medical treatment in Las Vegas. He died three months later.

The property eventually found an unusual second life of its own. The former brothel and strip club later became a marijuana growing and drying facility.

What Happened to Love Ranch South?

Love Ranch South in Crystal remained in operation until 2018, when it faced repeated disputes with Nye County over licensing and code compliance. The property never reopened after that year.

After Dennis Hof’s death, the site was eventually sold as part of a larger acquisition to Nevada Ranch Holdings LLC. Among the company’s officers was Janet Jensen, founder of The Jensen Project, an organization focused on sexual exploitation and trafficking whose founder has publicly opposed prostitution.

The former Love Ranch was demolished in November 2024.

Love Ranch South therefore had a very different afterlife from Angel’s Ladies, Shady Lady Ranch or Bikini’s: the business closed, the property passed into ownership connected to an anti-prostitution organization, and the brothel buildings were ultimately removed.

Getting to a Legal Brothel From Las Vegas

Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch are both about 60 miles from the Las Vegas Strip and are reached via State Route 160 through the Spring Mountains. Alien Cathouse is farther northwest in Amargosa Valley and is reached via U.S. Highway 95.

Visitors may drive themselves, and Chicken Ranch and Sheri’s Ranch currently advertise transportation from Las Vegas. Travelers considering Alien Cathouse should check directly with the property for current transportation options.

Which Las Vegas-Area Brothel Should You Visit?

There is no objective answer to which legal brothel near Las Vegas is “best.” The three operating properties differ in setting, amenities and the size of their courtesan rosters. Public rosters reviewed for this article show Sheri’s with the largest lineup, followed by Chicken Ranch and then Alien Cathouse. Rosters change frequently.

Chicken Ranch is technically the closest, although its location next door to Sheri’s Ranch makes the difference negligible for travelers. The property has a heated swimming pool, VIP bungalows, hot tubs and the full-service Leghorn Bar. Its public roster is typically smaller than Sheri’s but larger than Alien Cathouse.

Chicken Ranch also makes a historical connection to the famous Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas. The Nevada property presents itself as part of that history, but contemporary local reporting documents Walter Plankinton opening a Chicken Ranch in Pahrump in 1976. The connection is therefore better treated as the Nevada property’s claimed lineage rather than a simple relocation story.

Sheri’s Ranch generally maintains the largest courtesan roster of the three and has the most resort-oriented setup. Its property includes a hotel with standard rooms and themed suites, a full-service restaurant and bar, swimming facilities and themed VIP bungalows. Sheri’s also holds occasional themed events and weekend-long parties.

Alien Cathouse is farther from Las Vegas in Amargosa Valley and generally operates with a smaller public roster than either Pahrump property. The brothel has its own bar/lounge, while the adjacent Area 51 Alien Center includes a roadside restaurant, gas station and alien-themed gift shop. The Cathouse has a distinctly different desert-roadside character from the two larger Pahrump brothels.

Roster sizes change frequently, so visitors interested in a particular courtesan, or simply in having the widest selection available, should check each property’s current lineup before making the trip.

Visiting a legal brothel near Las Vegas doesn’t have to be confusing. After reading this page, travelers should have a better understanding of the fundamentals they need to choose a nearby house that fits them and enjoy their brothel experience.
